Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson will break new ground this Saturday, December 14, at 8 p.m. as she steps onto the Broadway stage for a historic cameo in the hit musical comedy & Juliet. The special performance at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre will be followed by a post-show discussion with the Justice.

The evening marks another milestone for Jackson, who became the first Black woman confirmed to the United States Supreme Court in 2022. With this walk-on role, she also fulfills a personal aspiration shared in her bestselling memoir, Lovely One. Reflecting on her college application journey to Harvard, Jackson revealed her dream of one day blending her passions for law and the arts: “I expressed that I wished to attend Harvard as I believed it might help me ‘to fulfill my fantasy of becoming the first Black, female Supreme Court justice to appear on a Broadway stage.’”

Justice Jackson’s appearance coincides with the musical’s continued success on Broadway. Featuring a diverse cast led by Maya Boyd as Juliet, Tony Award-winner Paulo Szot as Lance, and Drew Gehling as Shakespeare, & Juliet reimagines the ending of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy through a vibrant and empowering lens. The production, which includes music by Max Martin and direction by Luke Sheppard, has become a celebration of inclusion and creativity.

This one-night-only event further cements & Juliet as a cultural touchstone, with Jackson’s involvement highlighting the intersection of artistry, justice, and representation.
